Some lucky researchers actually spend their time analyzing smiles and what they communicate. They discovered there are over 50 kinds of smiles!

Here are the results of our own informal survey. Recognize any of these smiles?

"I’m sincerely glad to see you" Smile

See those crinkly lines around her eyes? You may call them crow’s feet, but they are a sign someone is truly heartfelt about his or her smile.

"I'm faking it" Smile

Her mouth is smiling, but her eyes aren’t—a clue that she’s just pasting on a phony smile. Also known as “politician face.”

"Come closer" Smile

Want to get that guy across the room to move closer? Make eye contact, raise your eyebrows slightly, and tilt your lips upward nice and slow.

"I won the lottery" Smile

You can’t fake this kind of enthusiastic, whole-hearted smile. This person is really, really happy. And you know what? We’re happier just looking at her.

"I'm getting the job" Smile

One look and you know the interview went well. She’s polished, professional, and confident in her abilities. She’s not going to wait for things to happen; she’s shaking the tree.
